A variety of spray additives are available for use with herbicides and are used for different reasons. The most common functions of spray additives are:

1. Improve performance by enhancing retention and absorption of herbicide,
2. increase compatibility of tank mixes,
3. reduce drift by minimizing formation of spray droplets, and
4. reduce foaming.
