January 5, 2010 -  The 2010 Herbicide Guide for Iowa Corn and Soybean Production (WC-94) is available, either over the internet (http://www.extension.iastate.edu/Publications/WC94.pdf) or as a PDF file attached to this announcement. The publication lists many of the new options available for weed management in 2010, new products, and new crop technologies. The publication also provides a perspective about the impact of weeds on crop yields, an update on herbicide resistant weeds in Iowa, and rankings of herbicides on specific weeds common to Iowa. A definitive breakdown of prepackage herbicide mixtures is included as well as specific information about herbicide mechanisms of action. The information about herbicide mechanisms of action is critically important when development management programs for herbicide resistant weeds. The guide also describes new glyphosate resistant weeds that have evolved in Iowa and provides information about the management of herbicide resistant weeds and the implications of these problems on the sustainability of the genetically modified crop technologies.
